Car Accident Lawyer Reports Teen Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested After Three Killed

COLFAX, Calif. – A suspected teenage drunk driver was arrested Thursday night on felony manslaughter and driving under the influence charges after losing control of his vehicle, hitting a tree and killing three male passengers.

The driver, a 17-year-old Meadow Vista resident, was allegedly speeding in his Subaru Outback when he came to a curve in the road, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree on Applegate Road, police said. The single-vehicle accident claimed the lives of three passengers and injured another passenger at about 7:30 p.m.

There were three male passengers killed including two ages 21 and 31 who died at the scene and the second 21-year-old was taken by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, police said. The man later died at the hospital.

Police booked the teen driver into Placer County Juvenile Detention Center, the 17 year-old female injured passenger from Eugene, Oregon were taken to Roseville Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

“This is a very tragic situation for all of those involved in this car accident,” said Emery Ledger a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates. “Anytime alcohol is involved the consequences are often severe as was the case here.”

According to the latest statistics compiled by the Department of Motor Vehicles in 2009, fatal traffic accidents involving alcohol have been on the decline for three years now. In the most recent year, the number of traffic collisions involving fatalities was down 7.5% and the number of people killed in those accidents was down nearly 7% in 2009. This is good news, car accident lawyers say.

Headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif., Ledger & Associates has handled numerous cases involving victims of drunk drivers who have been injured in traffic collisions. Drivers who engage in this type of behavior are liable to the victims they injure in a car accident. Sadly, every year roughly one third of those killed in crashes were involved in alcohol-related accidents, car accident lawyers say

Families of those killed in a traffic accident may also have grounds for a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver of the vehicle who caused the accident.

Car Accident Lawyer Reports Two Drivers Injured in Multivehicle Collision on 405

COSTA MESA, Calif. –  One driver was ejected from her car and another driver was trapped insider her vehicle in a rollover collision involving five vehicles on Interstate 405 early Thursday morning.

Witnesses reported that the female driver of the Toyota Solara may have been speeding prior to the crash in which she was ejected from the car, police said. The collision caused another female driver in a Ford Explorer to become trapped in her car. Both injured women were treated on the scene by emergency workers and then transported to a local hospital, police officials said.

There were no reports of injuries to occupants of the other three vehicles involved in the accident which included an airport shuttle van, a Hyundai Tiberon and a limousine. The 6:20 a.m. accident, which closed several lanes for roughly an hour, took place near the 73 toll road, car accident lawyers report.

“Morning traffic can be treacherous for drivers commuting to work every day, but car accidents are typically part of that driver and everyone should be cautious on the roads in an effort to prevent them,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates.

In California, there were a total of 426,228 traffic accidents reported in 2009 including 2,805 fatalities, according to the Department of Motor Vehicles statistics. There were injuries reported in 163,524 of those incidents and the remainder involved only property damage claims.

Hit and Run Driver Sought After Striking 8 Year Old Boy

WESTMONT, Calif. –  Police are looking for the driver of a dark-colored Nissan Altima who witnesses say is responsible for a hit and run accident that severely injured an 8-year-old boy Wednesday about 6 p.m.

The boy, who was struck by the car on West 104th Street, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police reported that he was in critical condition.

The vehicle that struck the boy apparently had damage to the right side, according to police reports.

Car accident lawyers will tell you that hit and run accidents accounted for more than 9% of all fatal and injury accidents in California, according to 2009 statistics compiled by the Department of Motor Vehicles. There were 163,524 accidents involving injuries and 2,805 fatal accidents reported in California in 2009.

These hit and run accidents can be devastating to those who are left injured after being struck by a motorist, but even more for the families of victims who are killed in this type of accident, car accident lawyers say.

“Tragically this young boy was seriously injured in this accident and the person responsible needs to be found and held liable for his or her actions,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates in Newport Beach.

Truck Accident Lawyer Discusses Truck Jackknife Accidents

VACAVILLE, Calif. –  There was a real-life “Chicken Run” playing out on the westbound Interstate 80 about 2 a.m. Thursday morning when two big rigs collided after one jackknifed into the other spilling a load of some 5,000 chickens into the freeway.

The collision, which took place at Lagoon Valley Road, killed many of the chickens, but those that survived were running all over the interstate, according to California Highway Patrol on the scene of the accident.

Additionally, truck accident lawyers have learned, there were no immediate reports of injuries for either of the truck drivers, however, two people in a vehicle traveling behind the two tractor trailer trucks sustained minor injuries.

The incident blocked all lanes in both directions for roughly two hours while crews cleaned up the debris from the incident. Live chickens were taken to a nearby chicken rescue.

When a truck driver slams on his brakes it can result in the vehicle jackknifing or in other words the trailer is spun around and ends up beside the truck’s cab, truck accident lawyers say. These types of accidents can be serious because the trailer often blocks the road and oncoming traffic can plow into the truck’s trailer.

“Serious injuries can result after a collision with a truck due to the sheer size of these vehicles compared to the typical passenger car on the road,” said Emery Ledger, a truck accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates in Newport Beach.

Ledger & Associates specializes in handling truck accident cases for clients who have been injured or lost a family member in an accident. Serious injuries are often the result of any collision with a truck and victims should be compensated for their medical expenses as well as lost wages and pain and suffering, truck accident lawyers say.

Car Accident Lawyer Discusses What to do After a Car Accident

Have you been involved in a traffic accident and you don’t know what to do? Perhaps this is the first time something like this has happened to you. Chances are at some point in your lifetime you will be involved in some sort of traffic accident, car accident lawyers say. Statistics show that roughly one in three people will be either injured or killed in a car accident in their lifetime.

In fact, in California, there were 426,228 traffic accidents including 2,805 that were fatal collisions in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Accidents are reported on our state’s roadways every 74 seconds.

“When you are in an accident the first time it’s very disorienting and confusing,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates in Newport Beach. “Always remain calm and check on the safety of your passengers as well as the other driver to see if they need help.”

The best way to prepare for the possibility of being in an accident car accident lawyers say is to wear a seatbelt, drive within posted speed limits, be alert for other drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists, and avoid distractions while driving such as cell phones, eating and multitasking behind the wheel.

So what if you do all the above and you are still involved in a car accident?

Here are some basic steps car accident lawyers say you should take after an accident:

  • First of all remain calm and call 911 if there are any serious injuries.
  • Get out of harm’s way as quickly as possible and stay inside your car on freeways until help arrives on the scene.
  • Take down the other driver’s name, telephone number, address, driver’s license number, insurance information.
  • Take down names of any witnesses, address and telephone number and a brief description of what they saw. Memories can fade over time so it’s important to get the information immediately and if you can have them write it down on paper, date it and sign it.
  • Keep a disposable camera in your car or use a cell phone camera to photograph the accident scene, injuries, road hazards and evidence including the vehicles of all drivers involved in the accident.
  • Never admit guilt in an accident or discuss what you think happened with anyone at the scene of the incident.
  • Make sure to file a police report immediately if there are any injuries or significant property damage.
  • If a police officer arrives at the scene make sure to take down his name, police station and badge number for your records.
  • If you are injured in a traffic accident, and you believe that someone else was at fault, call a car accident lawyer within 24 hours or as soon as possible. Delaying could hurt your case and if you wait too long you could lose your right to sue under statutes of limitations. A car accident lawyer will need to investigate the incident to determine whether you have a case against another driver.

Many accidents result in minor injuries that heal quickly, but serious injuries can take weeks or months to recover and sometimes can result in permanent disabilities or death, car lawyers say. In order to be compensated for your losses you may need to file a lawsuit against the liable party who caused your injuries.

Ledger & Associates has a team of legal experts who are experienced with all aspects of personal injury cases and will work to get compensation for those who are injured in a collision with another driver.

Car Accident Lawyer Talks About Parents Liability with Teen Drivers and Alcohol

While younger children are out trick-or-treating on Halloween, older teenagers are often celebrating at parties hosted by other teens or their parents. However, parents hosting Halloween parties for teenage children need to be aware that if they provide alcohol to their guests they may be liable for the consequences of those guests’ actions after they leave.

In an effort to cut down on alcohol-related teen fatalities, last year, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger approved a new law AB 2486 entitled the “Teen Alcohol Safety Act” that seeks to punish parents who serve alcohol to teenagers. Car accidents are the number one cause of death for teenagers and roughly a third of those accidents are alcohol related incidents.

“There is often more than one person who is liable in an auto accident,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates. “That’s why it’s important to discuss your accident with a car accident lawyer who specializes in the field to ensure you get the compensation you deserve.”

In the past, victims of traffic accidents caused by drunk teenage drivers could not file a lawsuit against the parents of the defendant who hit them, but the new law changes that allowing victims to pursue a lawsuit against adults who provide alcohol to a teen.

Additionally, another law provides that adults may also be fined up to $1,000 for purchasing alcohol for and may be ordered to complete community service.

Ledger & Associates, headquartered in Newport Beach, handles hundreds of alcohol-related car accidents every year. If you are injured by a teenage driver who was drinking alcohol there may others liable jointly for your injuries. It’s important that the accident be reported immediately to police and then call a car accident lawyer so an investigation can be conducted on the accident.

Two People Hurt in Malibu Crash, Car Accident Lawyer Reports

MALIBU, Calif. – Two people were injured and airlifted to UCLA Medical Center Tuesday after the passenger car they were driving in smashed into the side of the mountain on Canan Dune Road.

A man and a woman were in the vehicle, but police did not know who was driving the car. One of the two people injured was in critical condition, the other’s injuries were minor in comparison. The driver of apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the vicinity of Tunnel No. 1, police officials said. Debris from the crash was strewn all over the street, according to reports.

“Tragically drivers navigating canyon roads often lose control and the results can be deadly,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer. “

Car accident lawyers handle many types of car accident cases such as this one. The circumstances involved in each case are all different and sometimes determining who may be at fault can be difficult.

Expert car accident lawyers are trained to help determine whether a driver is liable in a collision based on an investigation, close examination of police reports, witness testimony and other factors.

Victims who are injured in car accidents can undergo weeks or even months of treatment in order to get back on their feet again, car accident lawyers say. Sometimes the injuries are so severe that a person can be out of work for long periods of time. An experienced car accident lawyer can help you obtain compensation for your injuries, loss of work and pain and suffering.

Woman Rescues Big Rig Truck Driver After Crash, Car Accident Lawyer Reports

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The driver of a big rig truck was rescued out of his burning cab by a woman passerby early Wednesday on Highway 101, shutting down southbound lanes for several hours as crews cleaned up spilled diesel from the accident.

A female driver who pulled over after the crash pulled the truck driver out of his cab and the man was later transferred with unknown injuries to a local hospital. Several passenger cars were involved in the accident with a big rig. The massive, double trailer truck carrying cement overturned and burst into flames at 5 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol officials.

There’s no question that traffic accidents involving big rigs can be deadly, car accident lawyers say. A truck outweighs the typical passenger car as it is more than 20 times heavier. This can cause catastrophic accidents and many times more than one vehicle is involved in the collision.

“This woman’s efforts to save the truck driver are certainly heroic,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates. “Any time you have a multivehicle traffic accident the impact can set off a fire among the vehicles and ultimately severe injuries can result.”

Having a traffic collision involving a truck driver can be complicated. Truck drivers are sometimes employees of large companies or independent drivers. Their driving time is tightly regulated in terms of how many hours they can travel on the road without resting, car accident lawyers report. They are required by law to keep track of their driving hours and resting hours in a report. If you are in an accident with a truck driver this report may become valuable evidence in determining who may be at fault for the accident.

A truck accident lawyer is experienced at handling cases involving truck accidents. This can be more complicated than cases involving passenger vehicles.  Sometimes there are multiple parties liable in these cases and it’s important to identify all parties liable in a lawsuit, car accident lawyers say.

The car accident lawyers at Ledger & Associates in Newport Beach have handled hundreds of traffic accidents involving trucks and claims where people are injured or killed in such collisions. The medical care for victims of these accidents can be costly, especially if there is an ongoing need for medical attention. So if you are injured in a traffic accident, car accident lawyers recommend that you call a personal injury law firm immediately.

Car Accident Lawyer Discusses Major Motorcycle Crash on 55 Freeway

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – In what police described as a major accident, a motorcyclist was severely injured Tuesday in a collision with a disabled vehicle on the 55 freeway at La Veta Avenue.

The collision, which took place about 9 p.m., caused the temporary closing of four lanes on the northbound 55 freeway, police said.

Motorcycle crashes have been on the decline in recent years, down from 2008 by roughly 28% in 2009 to 383 people killed and 10,478 injured, according to statistics compiled by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Sadly, roughly 67% of motorcycle drivers in all collisions with motorcycles were found to be at fault in the accident, DMV statistics show. The fact that motorcycle drivers are on two wheels puts them at more risk than drivers in four-wheel vehicles, car accident lawyers say.

“This driver most likely did not realize that vehicle in front of him was disabled and was unable to stop or drive around the obstacle quickly enough,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates in Newport Beach.

Injuries can be very serious for motorcyclists involved in traffic accidents. Many times they will need ongoing care for weeks and often months after the accident. Permanent injuries can also be a reality to those involved in motorcycle accidents, car accident lawyers say.

Ledger & Associates has a team of car accident lawyers who are experienced at handling all types of traffic accident cases including motorcycles, automobiles, buses, trains, airplanes, pedestrian, bicycle and more. If you are injured or have lost a loved one as a result of a traffic accident call for a free consultation with one of our car accident lawyers.

Car Accident Lawyer Reports Truck Driver Responsible for Quadruple Fatality Sentenced

ANAHEIM, Calif. – More than a year after a truck struck and killed a family of four people in a chain-reaction collision on the Interstate 5 freeway, the truck driver charged in the accident with negligence has plead guilty to four counts of vehicular manslaughter.

The truck driver was sentenced to nine months in jail for the Feb. 13, 2010 accident where the truck struck the family’s SUV and it was trapped between it and another tractor trailer truck and burst into flames.  The driver was accused of driving too fast at the time of the accident for the conditions and was reportedly unable to stop quickly enough to avoid the collision. The driver will begin his sentence on Oct. 31.

“Sadly, this truck accident took the lives of an entire family,” said Emery Ledger, a car accident lawyer at Ledger & Associates in Newport Beach. “Truck drivers wield an immense amount of weight behind them on the road and collisions involving them are often catastrophic.”

Serious fatal car accidents accounted for the deaths of 2,805 people involved in traffic accidents in 2009 out of a reported 426,228 overall collisions, according to California Department of Motor Vehicle statistics. Roughly 30% of all fatal and injury accidents were the result of drivers speeding, DMV records show.

Those involved in serious traffic accidents can face enormous medical bills, loss of wages and emotional scars that can last a lifetime, car accident lawyers say. Those drivers who are liable for the accident may be charged criminally as the above incident shows, but they can also face civil actions such as wrongful death claims from relatives of the victim.

Car accident lawyers at Newport Beach-based Ledger & Associates have seen countless cases where someone injured in a serious car accident has needed ongoing medical care for weeks, months and sometimes longer.

That is why it is important to contact a car accident lawyer immediately after a serious car accident so that an investigation can begin right away before memories fade and evidence gets lost. First take care of your medical needs, next contact a car accident lawyer so that your financial needs can be taken care of too.
